Google Suggest, where you type in the beginning of a search phrase and you’re shown popular searches that fit, knows about everything. Windows 7 has now been released, and Googlers are eager to get their hands on it. Type ‘Windows 7′ into the search box and you’ll be directed to ‘Windows 7 download (107 million results)’
Not everyone in this wicked world wants to pay for it though. Expand your search slightly to ‘Windows 7 to’ and ‘Windows 7 torrents’ (65 million results) tops the list.
Microsoft can take some solace in the increased popularity of its new system. ‘Windows Vista torrent’ only yields 28 million results, beaten even by ‘Windows xp torrent sp1′ (28.8 million results) and ‘Windows xp torrent sp2′ (29.6 million results).
Pure numbers are simple for the all-seeing Google, but it can sit in judgment too. ‘Windows Vista is’ returns many adjectives, only one of them complimentary. Snow Leopard, Apple’s latest operating system, is fast, better than Windows 7 and endangered. Presumably that refers to the big cat rather than the computer programme.
With only 387,000 results for ‘Snow Leopard torrents’, it’s surely less endangered than Windows.
