Packed Lunch Packs a Punch in Troubled Times

61.5% OF Australians are now taking their lunch to work saying that it's too expensive to buy lunch every day according to a survey of 1,146 people by LinkMe.com.au, Australia's leading career networking site.

Tasmanians (73.7%) and Queenslanders (66.7%) are feeling the pinch more than those in other states and have joined the brown bag lunch brigade according to Mr Campbell Sallabank, CEO of LinkMe.com.au, Australia's leading career networking site.

"And those in the Banking/Finance sector seem to be counting their pennies and reckoning that bringing lunch to work will pay dividends with 66.7% of respondents in that industry admitting that they are bringing lunch to work to drive their dollar further. Those working in government departments are following closely behind with 65.2% packing lunch at home.

"Perhaps they get good deals at work, but hospitality and tourism workers are least likely to bring lunch to work.

"However, 17.1% of respondents to the survey said hang the expense, they just couldn't be bothered making lunch every day and 8.5% said they don't have time to make lunch in the morning.

"Most people, i.e. 44.2% take 30 minutes for lunch each day, 29.2% take a full hour and 23.3% eat lunch at their desk every day.

"Of those that eat lunch at their desk every day, 56.8% said they consider this a health hazard with potential spillages and food build-ups in keyboards."
