Work Worsens With Winter... Survey

As the degrees drop in winter, so too does worker motivation according to a survey of 498 people by Australia's leading career building and networking site, Linkme.com.au.

Campbell Sallabank, CEO, Linkme.com.au said:

"There are people with seasonal affect disorder who during winter, suffer from insomnia, inability to concentrate and withdrawal from social contacts.

"Women are more susceptible to this with 49% admitting they suffer from seasonal depression. Blokes were less inclined to be affected at 36%."

According to this survey, the greatest impact winter depression has on work is the inability to get motivated and a decrease in productivity (64%). Others say they really have no time for colleagues and tend to get short and snappy (15.8%).

"Across the board, most of us simply hate getting up in the dark and cold, traveling through wet weather to get to work only to return in exactly the same conditions. This is in fact what 66.7% of people surveyed said they hate most about working in winter. Thankfully, we won't have to put up with it for much longer with only 4 weeks of winter left to go!"

Other pet hates during winter work days include having to wear extra layers of clothes (11.6%), the lack of enthusiasm in the office (12.4%) and the lack of warmth in the workplace thanks to bad air conditioning (9.2%).
