Workers put life on hold
Workplace changes are not making life better for the majority of Aussies with 58% of people saying that they are not happy with their current work/life balance according to a survey of 886 people conducted by leading career building and networking site Linkme.com.au.
Whilst 82% of Aussies describe themselves as people that work to live, it seems their current employment situation is not allowing them this preferred balance.

“I don’t find these statistics surprising. For the majority of Australians work balance is an ongoing struggle. There are only 8% of people where true personal interest determines what time they set their alarm clock for in the morning.”
The reasons Australians felt they were trapped within this imbalance were: “They can’t find a job with more flexible hours (33.6%)”, “They don’t want to threaten their income (23%)”, “They are not happy with the current work/ life balance but have adjusted to it (19.2%)” and some have even settled for the understanding that “It is normal to have this imbalance (5.4%)”.

“The truth is that Australians currently have an opportunity to negotiate better terms for work life balance as unemployment rates are at an all time low and there is a definite skills shortage. As a result, workers are in high demand and so they can afford to be more specific with their boss regarding the balance they seek.”
