Thumbs up to immigrant workers

64.4% of employees say they find it really easy to work with new immigrants and 57.7% say its because they are hungry and eager to work according to a survey by LinkMe.com.au, Australia’s leading career building and networking site.

However, 23.2% of the 2,703 respondents say their bosses do not check to see if non-Australian born employees have the correct documents to legally work in this country despite the processes put in place by immigration and taxation authorities.

Mr Campbell Sallabank, CEO of LinkMe.com.au says, “with the current skills shortages and high demand for employees, smaller companies are overlooking due processes in order to maintain their workforce levels. CEO’s and General Managers of companies in the 1–100 staff category most often do not employ HR managers and are entirely responsible for recruitment procedures. Oftentimes, recruitment is conducted in a rush and/or the employers are just not in the know.

Nearly 50% of employees say they work with recent migrants (arrived within the last two years) and 61% say they are sure proper legal documentation is in place.

“Most employees cited the language barrier as the one issue that detracts from an immigrant’s success at work, but conversely the willingness and ability to work long hours without complaint certainly earns a big tick from Australians. 37.3% of respondents say new immigrants put up with a great deal in the workplace because they are scared to lose the work.”
