No bangs for small bucks

Money is the greatest motivator when it comes to job performance with 85% of people admitting they would work harder if financially rewarded for each outcome, according to a survey by Australia’s leading career building and networking site Linkme.com.au.

An overwhelming sixty-nine percent of the 670 Australians surveyed are currently not applying themselves in the workplace citing reasons such as not being in their dream job (25%), work being too easy (22%) and simply feeling that they don’t get paid enough (22%).

Trips away, freebies, discounts or director titles aren’t exactly performance motivators according to the survey. However status came in after money as the second driver to put in their all, so long as clients, staff and the whole industry know who they are and their level of power (20%).

Campbell Sallabank, CEO Linkme.com.au said:

“Money always has and always will be a key driver to not only encouraging top performance, but attracting the best performers. Although it’s not the only way.

“People use money as an indication of just how important a person is socially, professionally and personally. Status was mentioned as a significant factor to working harder, and as such illustrates that people want others to know just how great they are at their job, and how important they are to the organisation they work for.

“Even the work experience person can score tickets to a footy game. Employees are looking for money can’t buy opportunities that would elevate their status, if not their bank balance”.
