Aussie workers turn high-paid cleaners the week before NY

Arguably the smartest workers in the country will work their way right up to the new year on their usual salary to clean their desk, organise their files and get set for the year ahead.

According to a survey by Linkme.com.au, Australia’s leading career building and networking site, workers around the country will be getting domestic around the office this week:

  • Clearing email inbox (39.1%)
  • Organising files (38.4%)
  • Wiping down the desk (37.2%)
  • Cleaning the mouse and keyboard (32.2%)
  • Archiving notebooks and files used throughout the year (24.9%)
  • Update contacts folder (18.5%)

Campbell Sallabank, CEO of linkme.com.au said:

“While some of us will be soaking up the sun this week, others will be removing scum from their desks! Surprisingly, the survey revealed that those of us that will be working would rather clean than plan for the year ahead!”

The survey revealed that domestic or administrative chores top the year’s last 2006 to–do lists. Lowest on the agenda are any plans to resign (8.8%), asking for a payrise (10.9) and conducting a debrief with clients or colleagues on the year that passed (12.6%).
