Aussies united with Thorpie on the job front
With Ian Thorpe drawing the curtains on a career he has achieved so much in, many Australians find themselves in the same position, with 86% confessing they are in a job they are not happy with according to a survey conducted by linkme.com.au, Australia’s leading career building and networking site.
As 2006 nears to an end many Australian employees reassess their career and realise that they are not as happy as they once were just as Ian Thorpe did when he popped his head up out of the water and saw the world around him.
Mr Campbell Sallabank CEO of Linkme.com.au says:
“Ian Thorpe is like any other employed Australian. When you lose your drive and passion for what you do it is very difficult to continue. This is the time of the year when employees have the opportunity to reflect on the year it has been and look to make changes for the year ahead.
Of the 1004 survey respondents 75% admitted they have identified their ideal job, however 87% are not even in the industry needed to get there.
“Many people go into a job, highly motivated and passionate about what they are taking on. Over time this can change. Employees need to be stimulated by employers and presented with new challenges on a regular basis to maintain the passion for their job.
“Ian Thorpe is a perfect example of someone who has conquered all of the challenges set to him, once this happens it is very difficult to sustain the drive to keep going.”
