Aussies search for greener pastures

Australian employees are on the look out for greener pastures with 29% confessing they search for jobs most days, according to a survey conducted by linkme.com.au, Australia’s leading career building and networking site.

The 1004 survey respondents believe the two most valuable ways to find a job are through networking, with 61% using contacts via associations and professional bodies. Interestingly, 57% believe it is important to stay on side with the ex boss and colleagues for future networking opportunities.

Mr Campbell Sallabank of Linkme.com.au says:

“With almost one third of employees searching for jobs on a daily basis it is important for employers to keep ahead of the game and provide challenging and enjoyable work for staff.

“You expect staff with career ambition to be on the look out for bigger and better opportunities, but some employers may not expect them to do so on a daily basis!

“It is great that many people believe it is valuable to stay in touch with your ex boss and colleagues for future opportunities. It is imperative that you do not burn your bridges. Often the best reference and most honest assessment of your skills will come from a former employer. Keeping a good relationship is definitely beneficial.

What was once the traditional method of finding work, reading and applying for positions was ranked as the third most valuable way to find a job by 54%.
