Aussie Companies Are Atheist At Work

Muslim, Hindu, Catholic or Jewish – regardless of the religion of the boss or the employees, it has absolutely no influence on organisational policies or culture according to 90 per cent of people surveyed by career building and networking site Linkme.com.au.

Campbell Sallabank, CEO Linkme.com.au says: "It is interesting to see just how open minded we truly are when it comes to business. Most surveyed highlighted that religion has no real pull at work, demonstrating we have tolerant, accepting and diverse workplaces.

"That's exactly what every business needs to be to encourage a diverse workforce. Diversity is key to creativity, new ideas, access to new markets and different work ethics.

"Putting a strain on company culture by taking a stance on religion and implementing policies in line with that position is anti-productive, anti-social and certainly anti-Australian.

Religion has had some influence on ten percent of businesses. According to those surveyed, their employers have put in policies that inhibit certain conversations (34%), do not allow some icons to be displayed (11.9%), restrict employees from bringing in certain foods (9.5%) and do not celebrate some religious holidays (3.6%). For 5.4%, that even includes Christmas.

"Business is about growth, profits, development and innovation. Companies that decide to bring religion to work risk losing the key to a great business – and that's great people".
